From A Magazine:
MARY KATRANTZOU AND THE SURREALIST IDEAL, BY EMH
The third consecutive collaboration between Mary Katrantzou and Erik Madigan Heckmarks a stylistic and conceptual departure from the previous two collections of photographs released in 2011- with an attempt at entering a truly surreal and bizarre world. In this new series, Mary’s clothing and Erik’s photographs converge as 11 disparate, yet collective works- heavily referencing early Parisian Surrealist painters, Catholic iconography, and Greek mythology. The result is an abstract study of how fashion imagery can morph into new creative realms.
*The images are layered with photographs and applied painting – with scenarios first created in Erik’s New York studio as expansive sets with models suspended in the air and transformed into a dream state.
